NAHB/HBI Instructor Certification Online Application
Home Builders Institute (HBI), the workforce development of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), is offering instructor and student certification to help shape a workforce that is skilled, knowledgeable and able to meet the needs of the residential construction industry. NAHB is the largest association representing residential construction with 800 state and local associations and 175,000 members. HBI is also Cluster Leader for the Architecture & Construction Career Cluster. Career Clusters have been incorporated into every State’s Department of Education’s Career & Technical Education division.
The application steps for instructor certification are easy:
1) Submit your Application Form (only complete application forms will be accepted)
2) You will be notified by HBI via email when your application form has been received and approved (notification with explanation also sent for unapproved applications)
3) Submit your $400 payment for the course on line at http://shop.hbi.org/.

4) HBI will check email addresses and names as they will appear on the HBI certification and OSU certificate prior to the course starting
5) HBI will forward your information to The Ohio State University
6) You will receive (via email) instructions for accessing The Ohio State University online classroom system

How it works:
- Certification will be taught in sixteen (16) distinct online modules that constitute the course.
- You must answer seven (7) of the ten (10) questions correctly to successfully complete a module.
- You must successfully complete thirteen (13) of the sixteen (16) modules to receive certification.
- You have six (6) consecutive weeks to complete all sixteen (16) modules.
- You are given an opportunity to retest (one time only) on any module were you did not receive a passing score.
NOTE: HBI certification is valid for 5 years. During that period, instructors must complete at least one industry continuing education course each year in order to maintain a current certification. The first year following certification must include OSHA training.
