HBI will launch the initial certification test for residential construction in the areas of carpentry, HVAC and house wiring (specific dates during fall 2009/10 school year).  Tests for certification may be ordered through the NOCTI website at www.nocti.org.  

Certification is offered for the following levels of education:

• secondary
• postsecondary

Instructors are given the option of determining the testing level for their students.  Certification testing is offered at three proficiency levels:

• entry
• semi-skilled 
• skilled  

Most institutions prefer to utilize online testing for students.  There are, however, some circumstances that dictate use of paper/pencil testing.  Both types of testing are scored by a secured entity.

Cost for online testing:

• $18.50-Secondary
• $35-Post secondary

Cost for paper/pencil testing:

• $24-Secondary
• $39-Post Secondary
